Weekly Recap
Weekly recap for the week of Sunday the 6th of July 2025.
Texas Flood
There have been devasting floods in Texas which have killed a very high number of people, many of whom children who were at a camp when it happened. These kinds of disasters are now political battlegrounds on which we fight over who deserves to die for being in an area which voted a certain way. The disaster itself and the response now takes a backseat to whatever attack or virtue signaling you want to do to boost how righteous you look or to piss off the alternative side. This is something I approve of in the landscape which we now live and that might be a shocking thing to read. I am not an enlightened centrist seeking to browbeat both sides, there is someone more in the wrong here and it is the right wing. Timelines matter, and the first time that this politicization happened in recent times, it was the Republicans under Donald Trump politicizing the California wildfires. To be completely fair and unbiased, the left as a whole has not really politicized the flood beyond what is reasonable given that is the new rule that Republicans have set about natural disasters, that they are political theater now. Donald Trump did cut weather services drastically as one of the things he bragged the most about and now that seems to have born fruit in the death toll. It is hard to say how different this would have been under a functional administration but certainly it would have been less deadly. The systems we use to alert people and to know about these things before they happen are important and it is disturbing that once again humanity has to learn these lessons the hard way. However, this is not the world I wanted to live in, I am merely here and now that I am judgement must be made and a stance must be taken for the nation to survive. If basic functions to prevent death by disaster can no longer function because of political jockeying, then we have lost as a country. Of course it is a horrible tragedy, and the people that died didn’t deserve it, but what else are you supposed to think about other than the cuts to weather services. Republicans have met these criticisms with virtue signaling and outrage which is entirely undeserved given their demeanor about disasters in left leaning areas, it is laughable that they believe they have any ground to stand on.
States Propose Funding Freeze
In what is easily the most worrying news this past week, multiple Democratic states have begun to implement procedures for withholding their funding for the federal government. This was always the most worrying way things could go, and the most tangible way any kind of civil conflict could ever begin. For some background, the nations finances are complex but can be relatively easily understood. The main areas that make money for the country are New England, particularly Maryland, and California. These places are Democrat leaning, this is because Democrats live more in the cities, and the cities are where the money is made. The south and the middle of the country do not on average make money. These are the reason we have such a huge national debt, Republicans rely more on welfare and their states pay into the federal government less than Democrat ones on average. The closer you get to states that take more from the federal government than they pay in, the more likely you are to be in a Republican one. Democratic cities carry rural areas which lean Republican, and without the cities they would be in quite a bit of financial trouble. This is all entirely beyond Trump’s ability to perceive, he genuinely has no idea that’s how things work because he is a moron. He has been threatening many Democratic leaders with federal funding freezes because of political differences. Were the Democratic states to be pushed to withholding their funding it would not immediately be all that worse for the federal government but give it a year maybe less and the problem would become apparent. The debt would explode, the country would fail, but at that point we would essentially be in what I call a qausi-breakup of the union. The blue states might form their own economic union or something, it’s all hypothetical right now, but seemingly, becoming less so. Multiple states have now introduced ways to do this, Maryland included, if it spreads to California, which it almost necessarily would, things would get quite heated. The red states would struggle to support themselves even more than they already do, and the federal government would be desperate to get them back. Trump’s ego would never allow him to go back on something like this and I believe this scenario is the only one in which I can actually see some kind of conflict breaking out to bring the blue states back under the financial control of the federal government. Any other blathering about civil war is childish and stupid, but money matters and when you follow the money of the nation you see the most worrying developments you could imagine happening right now. It’s not coming soon, it’s here, the nation stands on the brink because of the ego of Donald Trump and if it were to tip over he would be the one to blame.
90 Deals in 90 Days
The deadline is today and we have 0 deals. There has been very little progress on the trade front despite the great art of the deal negotiator being in charge. This is because he is stupid and free trade doesn’t bend to the will of egotistical morons. You turn your back on free trade capitalism and you deserve to get hit with whatever consequences that comes with, political or economic. These policies do not work, they make the lives of everyone around the world worse, tariffs are simply stupid economic policy. There isn’t a single serious economist who would tell you otherwise and if anyone does it is because they do not have even a layman understanding of global economic policy. The whole tariff thing is tremendously moronic and it has of course blown up in the worst, most public way possible for this administration in a complete failure to secure any serious trade deals with any countries. Trump loves to talk about the semi deals he made with Vietnam or the UK or an entirely imagined deal with China, but in reality these are the ravings of a dementia riddled old man and nothing more. There isn’t much more to say on this subject, free trade benefits all parties involved and their citizens, don’t stray from it.
Epstein
In the latest embarrassment for the admin, they have released some half baked, shitty, footage of the outside of Epstein’s cell. They have denied the existence of the client list and have told their conspiracy sick audience that they have to trust the original conclusion that Epstein killed himself. This will not work. They have created a golem, a hulking mass of conspiracy minded people, and now that they are the government they expect these people to turn back on everything and just trust them. This approach obviously will not work, the golem has turned on it’s master and is destroying them, this is a massive weakness for them. It turns out endlessly mistrusting the government on literally anything is probably not a solid basis for an ideology whose ultimate goal is to gain access to government. Combine this with the break with Musk, and midterms and 2028 are all but guaranteed to go to a Democrat. This clown show has lost all political power from their own stupidity and madness and we will take advantage of that. Despite there not really being anything suspicious at all about the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s suicide, it is nearly impossible to convince a Trump supporter of that because of the podcasters which give them their opinions. Trump and his admin are finding that out now.
